  • “I had an amazing chance to have Doyls as a surf guide during my surf trips around Costa Rica and in France. It was life-changing: I didn't have to worry about the tides, currents, forecast, board choice, etc. I could fully concentrate on my surfing and take the best of my trip with a total peace of mind."

Every Break
Teaches You
Something
New

Surfing the same break every day has its value, but there's a point where familiarity stops teaching you new things. Different waves demand different things from you. A beach break teaches you to read fast, unpredictable peaks. A point break gives you longer rides to work on your turns. Each new break exposes something in your surfing that your home wave never would.

Our coaches know which break works on which tide, where the crowds aren't, and how to match the wave to your level on any given day. That local knowledge is what turns a surf trip into a genuinely useful one.

your questions, answered

  • With a Surf Trip, we organize everything. Spots, transport, equipment, coaching. You just show up. A Surf Guide is for surfers who've already planned their own trip and simply want an experienced coach alongside them. You handle the logistics, we bring the local knowledge, the wave reading, and the in-water support. Same quality of coaching, two different levels of involvement on our end.

  • You need to be comfortable in the water and able to ride waves consistently. These trips are designed for intermediate surfers who are ready to challenge themselves across different breaks and conditions. If you're still learning the basics, our surf lessons are the right starting point, and a trip makes a great next step once you're ready.

  • It happens, though the North Pacific coast of Costa Rica is one of the more consistent stretches of coastline in the region. If conditions aren't suitable for the planned break, we move to one that works. Part of what you're paying for is coaches who know where to go when plan A doesn't pan out.

  • We check swell forecasts, tide charts, wind direction, and factor in the time of year. Then we decide the morning of, because conditions can shift overnight. That flexibility is part of what makes the trips work. We're not following a fixed itinerary, we're chasing the best wave available on the day.
